On A Halifax Pier
The project started completely by accident. For years I would take my dog RyLeigh out for a walk on the Halifax waterfront boardwalk, the goal was to try to catch the sunrise, as there is nothing quite like it in the world.
The Halifax Boardwalk Is an amazing place to start your day.
Unfortunately for us, RyLeigh had been fighting what we believe was Cancer for a number of years, and on December 5 2020, in the middle of the Pandemic, RyLeigh had to cross the rainbow bridge.
Now for anyone who has lost a pet. It is not losing a pet but a member of the family. And with all of the fear happening with the Pandemic and losing her, it was too much for me.
The day we lost her, it broke me. With the Pandemic, working from home and trying to stay sane, it wasn't a good situation. I have to admit that day broke me.
For a few months after Ry being gone, I didn't really do much. I only left the house when I had to go for groceries and the occasional walk. I felt myself spiraling down.
As the song by Stan Rogers said. I was a broken man "On a Halifax Pier" the last of barrets privateers.
I made a decision to start to get out and actually try to get myself back into some sort of shape, and I found myself walking daily. I would go to the hill where we would play everyday and start with a shot of George's Island. The sun coming up over the island is sometimes miraculous.
Almost everyday since I started again, I have tried to capture something on the waterfront or where ever I am and so it is where the title of the collection came from "On A Halifax Pier".
While I walk I listen to Gary Vaynerchuk quite a bit, and one of the things that he mentioned was "document don't create" and so that is what this collection is. Me Documenting the journey daily.
When I finally did start my morning walks again, I was honestly (as the Stan Rogers song goes) “A Broken Man, on a Halifax Pier”
The morning walks on the waterfront are still an amazing way to start the day, and these NFT's are meant to spread some of the Joy and amazement that I try to find daily.
Please enjoy the Journey.
